COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST
PAN AMERICAN HEALTH ORGANIZATION (PAHO)

November 2016 - April 2021

  • ​Experience supporting Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) communication efforts through multiple Social Media channels across the Americas.

  • Worked on various web development projects and oversaw the development of a new website for PAHO Health Emergencies.

  • Designed and executed an innovative public health social media strategy, creating templates that explain natural disasters to improve preparation for emergencies while providing timely information on natural disasters to a diverse population.

  • Conceptualized and introduced a dissemination strategy for the Disaster Newsletter that is published every three months to improve responsiveness in the area of Heal Emergencies (natural disasters and disease outbreaks).

  • Collaborated with the country office to provide PAHO's response to Hurricane Dorian in the Caribbean.

  • Contributed to the natural disaster relief efforts as one of the first organizations on the ground able to evaluate the magnitude of the disaster and analyze the population's needs to avoid disease outbreaks.

  • Conducted research to support the first launch of the Heatwave Preparedness Initiative for the Department of Health Emergencies at PAHO.

  • Created social media, radio, and television campaigns, applying radio and TV ads in the remote areas of  Central America where high technology is lacking.​

  • Primary focal point for responding to inquiries from the general public regarding topics such as influenza, leptospirosis, infection prevention and control, yellow fever, COVID-19, and information related to Malaria, Dengue, Diphtheria, and Zika epidemiological alerts and updates. 

  • Responsible for reporting scientific data and analysis to key stakeholders and transforming the data into a format that is readable to the general public.

  • Accountable to be current on all news press releases regardless of the communication platform. This includes but is not limited to reading, revising, and researching all the information posted on the PAHO website related to infectious, communicable, and non-communicable diseases and COVID-19.

  • Experience communicating scientific data points and analysis by creating and referencing elaborated factsheets, infographics and press releases of natural disasters and diseases outbreaks.

KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT SPECIALIST
PAN AMERICAN HEALTH ORGANIZATION (PAHO)

August 2010 - October 2015

  • Successfully increased the number of people visiting Platform on Access and Innovation for Health Technologies (PRAIS) through communication updates targeting individuals through social media campaigns and bulletins informing on Communities of Practices, new data from regulatory authorities, and updates on essential medicine lists.

  • Authored training manuals and led training sessions for internal users and external sponsors, including the FDA.

  • Administered PRAIS for PAHO, troubleshooting the virtual environment and gathering data on how regulatory authorities of the region regulate medicines, vaccines, and medical devices including the public health repository, essential medicines lists, and communities of practice (CoP).

  • Developed and executed a Communications Awareness Campaign to increase blood donations with the PAHO organization. Coordinated a blood drive with American Red Cross that took place at PAHO headquarters.

  • Designed PRAIS’s communication strategy by creating brochures, press releases, digital marketing strategies, communications, and social media posts to increase platform traffic.

  • Facilitated and led training for users and monitored communities of practice activities to ensure content was constantly updated and aligned with the organization’s objective.

  • Conceptualized, created, and launched international communications campaigns for World Blood Donor Day and Pan American Network on Drug Regulatory Harmonization (PANDRH) conference. Positioned World Radiology Day on the PAHO calendar as a key day through effective communication dissemination efforts.

  • Wrote press releases, media relations content, and newsletters, covering various subject matter relative to medicine and health technologies.

  • Edited, proofread, translated, and ensured articles and policy notes were high quality knowledge products.

  • Researched and drafted short notes on regulatory issues that impacted the region of the Americas to inform national regulatory authorities, ministries of health, NGOs, think tanks, and researchers.

FOREIGN MEDIA ANALYST
EMBASSY OF VENEZUELA

  • Designed five strategic public diplomacy campaigns targeting US and Venezuelan audiences. These campaigns focused on the economic, social, and political collaboration between both countries, resulting in improved diplomatic relationships and understanding of the progress each country was making to improve quality of life.

  • Delivered comprehensive support by drafting embassy statements, advising media, creating opinion pieces, and drafting correspondence to department heads.

  • Successfully placed articles in seven major US Newspapers: The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Times, The Miami Herald, El Nuevo Herald, and The Los Angeles Times.

  • Authored articles and provided copyedited web content for the press department.

  • Managed web content and provided timely updates for the Embassy’s website.

  • Drafted daily analytical briefs on US political landscape for embassy officials and Venezuelan policy makers.

  • Researched and wrote briefs, analytical documents, and presentation materials for senior embassy officials.
